Following an invitation by Professor Ivor Karavanic (see left), Rachel and Thibaut attended the International conference “Prehistoric hunter-gatherers and farmers in the Adriatic and neighbouring regions” in Croatia (22 – 24 September 2015). The conference was organized at the Museum of Kaštela (Muzej grada Kaštela) located in one of the best-preserved fortresses in Kastela: Vitturi castle which was built to protect the population against the Ottoman attacks. The Museum was founded in 1999 and curates a broad collection including archaeological materials, historical objects and modern & contemporary art. The Museum also takes care of archaeological sites including the Palaeolithic site Mujina cave in Labinska draga.
The papers presented during the conference covered a broad range of topics related to hunter-gatherers over a large period of time form Lower Palaeolithic until Bronze Age. Thibaut gave a general introductory paper on the PalaeoChron project and Rachel presented her DPhil research work. On the last day of the conference, a field trip to Mujina pećina (Middle Palaeolithic site) and to the historic city of Trogir (UNESCO World Heritage) was organised.
