Back to Tautavel

Tautavel, a small town in the south of France, near Perpignan, is linked intimately with the key site of Arago Cave. The site is a few minutes drive from the town centre. For 51 years Henry de Lumley and his team have excavated there. Of course for PalaeoChron Arago is not of direct interest since it is much older than the radiocarbon limit and well before the end of the Middle Palaeolithic, nevertheless there is alot of other material in the Musée there that is of interest.

We have been working on material from the site of La Crouzade with our colleague Thibaut Saos, as well as L'Hortus and several other sites. This trip was designed to relook at some of the collections, discuss more sampling and work with some of our project colleagues on other material of interest.
