Liège

The PalaeoChron team spent 2 days visiting Liège in Belgium. Our colleague, Professor Marcel Otte, works in the Université de Liège and is a very well known specialist in the Palaeolithic. He has excavated in many different countries and periods. We are interested in Iran and the nature of the transition to the Upper Palaeolithic there, and in Anatolia and Marcel has excavated at a number of locations in these regions.

One of the key sites is Yafteh Cave, and we were in Liège to look at material from this site.

Tom gave a talk on the work undertaken in Oxford so far and the PalaeoChron project. The Université de Liège has an excellent museum and a large number of staff working in the Palaeolithic. We were also very pleased to be able to obtain books published by their publishing house ERAUL (Études et Recherches Archéologiques de l’Université de Liège: see here). We carried back to Oxford more than 20 books! ERAUL has published more than 100 volumes since 1971.
