Denisova is one of the key sites in palaeoanthropology, featuring as it does the remains of a new species of hominin (the 'Denisovans'). We went to Novosibirsk to take samples from the principal archaeological levels that contain the human remains.
It was a super trip and we got a wide range of very good samples. Hopefully we will be able to produce a nice series of results, the collagen from the cave is very well-preserved indeed.
The facilities they have at the camp in Denisova are fabulous. We stayed in a lovely chalet, they have a sauna, a super restaurant/cafe and meeting rooms. It's an amazing place.
Thanks to Michael Shunkov and his team for their welcome and hospitality.
